Based on her observations of shadows in the earth The artist took months experimenting with a method to express objects in two dimensions onto canvas. The subject instead transforms into a representation of the subject and the canvas becomes the carrier of it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly when the subjects are alive or perishable, such as people or fruit. Alexa Meade's work is ephemeral however the photograph is the only thing that is left. Trompe l'oeil is achieved by combining the two techniques of painting and photographing. It creates a flattened, two dimensional picture. Meade has integrated her model paintings into the 3-dimensional space around the models. Interaction between them and the created environment is possible. This eliminates the distinctions between painting, photography and installation.
